
I like how you used the sky as a simple background.
A few suggestions:
- Using Fill Flash would have brightened the lower petals/bud and helped to define details in the shadow areas of the leaves.
- Cropping in the camera using the "rule of thirds" allows the flower to be the dominate focal point, holding the viewers eye by excluding some of the dull sky and some of the flower. Remember the image of the stain glass window that was offset? We don't always need to include the entire object in the frame, allowing the viewer to make up their own story about else was around the flower.
- Saturation tweaking in Photoshop helps the dull sky and brings the flower to life.
